Colon Hydrotherapy is an ancient treatment and form of healing. The use of enemas was recorded as early as 1500 B.C. by the Egyptians where they performed enemas in a lake or river using a hollow reed to allow water to flow into the rectum.
Colon cleansing has been a more common procedure than it is today. Before the departure of the Lewis & Clarke expedition, a physician instructed them in the appropriateness of using enemas in cases of fever and illness.
Our Grandparents and great Grandparents grew up with the use of enemas. Up until about fifty years ago Colonic irrigation was used in hospitals, but with the discovery of antibiotics the seemingly laborious process was all but abandoned. Also the status of nurses was elevated and the cleansing task became less appealing.
